A Strange Dilemma!

Hello Folks,
 I have just recently been placed into a strange dilemma, that has caused me some unexpected pain.
I currently own a 1982 Honda CB250RSA. The bike has covered just under 50 k, and is still going well, and we are happy together. But.....
My son last week bought me a 1995 Fireblade, which he has had re-sprayed, polished and tuned, with a multitude of extras. It is beautiful… but…. I am now having to sell the RS to pay for the increase in insurance! And to be honest, I am happy thrashing the tits off the RS, bouncing over the bumps, tyres barely gripping and sliding about, and all within the legal speed limit!
Strange, I should be happy with the Blade, but to be honest, I am not sure!
Maybe I’ll keep the little Honda for a while……

This'll sound dead ungrateful, but I'd keep the 250. It's far more fun using 100% of what you've got than spending your time trying to keep the "use" level down to about 25%. My MZ 301 is far more fun than my Bonneville for general riding and the less said about those 80 hp BMW's I used to buy the better!

Plan B would be to not insure the Blade and save up for a track day where you can use some of it's potential.

If you're happy with the little un then keep it. The Blade can wait until you've got the dosh..

I almost feel guilty using the little Yamaha Serow rather than anything else, but it's a lot easier to use and more fun. I only use the bigger bikes when I'm going a long way on the motorway.

I had a similar thought last night after riding my Freewind.  I just wanted to go faster and faster.  OK on a smaller bike but licence and life threatening on a big bike. 

Your choice entirely but if you enjoy the CB250 then keep it - you know you'll regret it later....

whats the point of flogging it. It's worth sweet FA and to get a replacement with the same trusted history is impossible.
You know it makes sense after all what will you ride in the winter?

Now all you have to do is to convince the family that keeping it is the right move!

My Two penneth worth!

I rode my XBR to Llangolen last weekend (The Ponderossa of course). It was a 210 mile round trip, twisties most of the way and an absolute hoot, I just could'nt stop grinning.

Yesterday I rode my Sprint ST to bonnie Scotland on a long day trip (Carter Bar must be one of the best view points in the UK - bloody wonderful, even in the rain!), fabulous roads and scenery and I enjoyed it much. However, whilst riding home I reflected on the fact that I enjoyed my jaunt to N. Wales every bit as much and indeed I felt far more confidnet flinging Ruby about that I would the Trumpet.

Whilst discussing this with my brother he wisely pointed out that significantly less weight and horepower are much less intimidating and unless you are a track God (which I am certainly not) it is much easier to get the best out of a small bike.
I love the Trumpet but I suspect Ruby will be in the garage long after the Sprint has gone!

Keep the 250, my guess is it owes you nothing and you will regret it if you get rid.

I am selling the blade, and giving the cash to my son with a grateful thankyou.
he'll make a tidy profit on it anyway, the shrewed lad he is.
I am soon doing a LeJog trip on the mini thumper , the long way up! via the Welsh mountains, lake district etc. it will be a real test for the old girl. I'll do an e'book on it later, and flog that on ebay instead!

ok now its my time to give my penny worth ...
the fireblade maybe a nice bike , but you will get used to the power and always try to overcome the nat. speed limits as its not realy fun to ride a fireblade always at idle speed , because a bit up the rev range and you are at double nat. speed limit
also the fireblade is impractical ,fuel economy isnt something you would relate with a 4 cylinder sportsbike  , the tyres maybe come with more grip but also with a higher pricetag and you need  loads of them if you use the bike ..usually every 4000-5000 a set of tyres also brakepads wont last longer if you use the fireblade
so i would say to your son .."thank you for the bike its realy nice looking, but could we sell it and buy a second cb250rsa and restore it to brand new condition "
as i`m the owner of a cbf 250  which is the "successor" of the cb 250 rsa (ok thanks to euro 3 regulations only with 20bhp)i`m biased as its so much fun revving her up to 10000 in every gear without breaking the nat speed limit ( ok in 6th gear she could ) the most fun is to shift through the gears to keep her going ,
you wont get that sort of fun on a fireblade because she is able to break the speed limit already in 2st gear , and i cant see a point of using the other 4 gears here in the uk , maybe on some german autobahns the gears 3, 4, 5, 6 make sence
