Martyn took a thirty foot tumble from a rock face whilst climbing in Llangollen. Broken wrist and extreme bruising means no riding and unsteady walking for at least six weeks. He will miss both the Scottish and Annual rallies.

Many thanks to all well wishers. I managed to fall off a cliff at Llagollen @ 5pm Sunday.Went@ 30 feet and landed on my back from right buttock to shoulder. Managed to walk back to car and my mate drove me home to local A & E. Plenty of x rays & morphine {good stuff}. Worst injury is fractured both bones in forearm at the wrist. Luckily no displacement. The rest is just bruising but i can walk and am learning to type with my left index finger. Since talking to Boyd last night i am much more mobile. Arm will be in plaster for 6-8 weeks so I may not make Dent unless I can arrange a lift. Fingers crossed.[on left hand at least] The NHS may be recieving bad press these days but I have nothing but admiration for Russell's Hall A & E for thier skill dedication and compassion. 5 star!!!!! At least the analgesia stops tomorrow so I can have a beer or three. 40 years of climbing and this is the worst off I've had. I'll be happy if it is 40 years until the next one. Cheers Mart

Its a radical way to avoid the two rallies, why didn't you just say you weren't going.
Seriously having fallen 30 feet whilst climbing a few years back, it isn't pleasant, so get well soon and hope to see you at the end of the summer.

Aye Mart,

Thank you for the effort you put into the left index finger 'summary' of the misfortune. Rock climbing is a nil pointer for me, trees with a harness and strops I can manage. I just feel more comfortable. Hope you make a full recoveery, with no lasting niggles.

All the best, Bill

As with biking - it is not the falling that hurts but the landing.  Bit of a bugger that.  Get better soon and get back on the bike and the rock.

A great combination rock and road.
