MOT with no V5

Has anyone out there tried to get an MOT without the V5 on a bike that's been on SORN?

My MZ is now ready and i'm itching to get on the road, but having to transfer the bike back into my name and change the engine number Swansea have the V5 and have been sat on it for weeks. I'm insured as of Friday, so I was thinking I could get an MOT, tax it via the slip you keep when you send off the paperwork and be off and running without Swansea having to pull their finger out. However, it'd be a shame to book an MOT slot then not be able to get any further due to lack of paperwork. On the other hand, MOT's round here need to be booked weeks in advance, so it makes sense to kick things off and risk not having the V5 on MOT day.

Well, I've never taken any paperwork with the bike when i've had an MOT...and done 2 in the last month....as far as i'm aware the frame number must be visible/readable (engine number is of no concern for the mot) i do take the old mot certificate if i have it, but it never gets asked for. And, they never enquire about insurance..

They should do an MOT on the frame number.  You dont need a V5 (although you may if one has been issued already....?)

But theoretically, it shouldn't make a difference.  Anyway, as steve says, they dont have to see the V5 for an mot...

I got a letter from DVLA when my car mot chassis number did not match the V5 number.
All I did was confirm the V5 details and what was written on the car identity plates.
So if the same holds true MOT without V5 is no problem as they do not seem to cross reference mot's and V5's until later.
Sorry if this seems a bit muddled I've just got up!

Never been asked for a V5 for an MoT. As has already been pointed out you shouldn't *really* even need a registration number as they can do the MoT on the frame number.

Passed today.

I knew the V5 came in somewhere. Went to tax it and sure enough there are 3 choices. You need the V5, renual/sorn paperwork, or it's off to the local vehicle office. Seems they use the bar codes on the V5 or renual and disk to tie up the payment to that vehicle and it'll be on the computer next time without any hand data entry. Mine turned up last week so I was sorted. The lady at the next counter was arguing the **** and getting nowhere, the counter guy just had nothing to scan.

Well there I was getting the autosol out for the photoshoot when I noticed the front tyre was a touch flat at the bottom. Blew up OK, but it's moved on the rim. Refitted and sure enough, it's not round. I think the tyre is too old to stand refitting and it is on the last 2mm of tread, so I'm back to riding the Bonneville and waiting for bits.
