With the help of a more experienced friend the plug tap has carefully been wound through the thread twice with a little swarf appearing. Some but not much resistance was felt and pressure   was mostly applied by turning the tap by hand using an appropriate extension to access down the deep plug tunnel. After cleaning a new plug went in again mainly by hand with final tightening to nip it up when the washer had crushed slightly.

So it seems job done ;D.

I couldn't get the engine to fire this afternoon. I removed the airbox and squirted some East Start directly in to the carbs. It fired a couple of times but wouldn't run.

I'd check for swarf on a plug it it's misfiring or running on less cylinders. Worth a look.

OK, so if proof were needed it has been confirmed I'm officially an idiot!

I forgot to connect the electrics back to the fuel pump. I discovered this when making some checks today.

It now seems to be running on all 4 cylinders.

Yes.. and you called our kid Michael, something my grandmother used to do on a regular basis 🤣
Maybe it’s time to buy a pipe and a rocking chair Martin, then just sit there, rocking away whilst twitching your curtains and moaning about how your neighbours have parked cars🤣

OR… you could just say, what the hell, so I’m getting older. Who cares? Then just go out at every available opportunity and enjoy a ride.
As the great Noddy Holder used to say “KEEP ONNA ROCKIN” 👍😁

Bike's back in one piece and running OK but subject to more testing. Airbox, bodywork and seat refitted. It looks quite presentable so I'm happy. Just fork seals to be done now.

Certainly looks a tidy little bike Martin from the photo. Think we both might be onto something here. Me with my “levitating mudguard” now you with a bike that can defy gravity. Its amazing how it stays attached to the paddock stand, even when it’s upside down 🤣🤣

It's a message from on high.

You need to fit some upside down forks dude.
