Mighty midget???
« on: August 18, 2025, 08:08:09 AM »
Obviously one for Ian (Itsme)
First off, where is Ian? Is he out there in some black hole, parallel universe still riding the mighty midget?🤔😁
My actual question is. Did you manage to get the mighty midget back up and running Ian?
The reason I ask is because. Having now covered approximately 300 miles on the Honda Cb250rs I bought from Kevin, I’m really seeing the massive appeal that these characterful little bikes have. Love riding it. Which got me to thinking about how Ian used to say how much he loved riding his “mighty midget”
So…. If you are out there Ian, please. Let us know what happened to the GN
Cheers, Michael

Hi Michael and other Thumperteers

Thank you for your concern Michael, the truth is I have been putting off making this post. About 18 months ago I began to feel ill, when Hilary and I walked our dog sometimes I found I was exhausted and could barely finish the walk. Being a bloke I ignored things until earlier this year when I began to feel really bad and had some very painful lumps in my neck and other areas on my body. I saw my GP several times and eventually she sent me for some urgent tests, to cut a long story short I have cancer of the lymph system which was quite advanced by the time they found it. HOWEVER B cell Lymphoma, which is what I have is curable and for the last 3 months I have been having chemo therapy and with 3 more months to go all is looking good, my bone marrow isn't affected and my blood count has gone up. My consultant is confident of a cure or full remission so all-in-all I'm a lucky boy, but as you may know chemo kicks the shit out of you so I have little energy for anything but sleeping and taking the 10 or so medicines I have to take daily to compliment the regular sessions hooked up to an infusion pump.

So sorry Thumperteers but it will be a while before I'm active here again but rest assured I will be. The Mighty Midget is being very slowly rebuilt as on a good day I can manage about 5 minutes working on it before I go for another sleep! Glad you are enjoying the Honda Michael and you're right these little bikes are great fun, as is the 350 Enfield Classic my wife bought me, which is waiting for me to be fit and strong enough to enjoy its full 20bhp.

I will keep watching TC and will contribute as and when until I'm recovered but thanks for making the effort to find out Michael.

Good morning Ian.
What can I say, shocked is the word that springs to mind. My father in law is also going through a similar thing at the moment, so I understand how draining all the treatments can be. I love your positive approach and I/we all on the TC know you’ll be active on here again once you’re feeling well enough 👍. I’ll be counting down the three months with you and come next spring we WILL have another meet up and ride out somewhere.
Take care and you and all your family have my very best wishes for a speedy recovery 🤞
All the best ..Michael

PS… the mighty midget will ride again 👍

Good morning Ian,

Cautioned to read of your diagnosis, but pleased that the prognosis is a positive. Your positive attitude and goal to get out for more cantering on both the Mighty Midget and the RE Classic, after the treatment, will, I am sure, spur you on. Have a chuckle, or a laugh, if you can, about anything, even if you have to go for a lie down after. I find that Dave Allen, or Billy Connolly, help the head!  ;)

Take care, all the shut eye you need and my best wishes to you and the family for your speedy recovery.

Just a quick note to say how much of a blow this must have been for you, but good news that the prognosis is positive. All the best to you & yours and hopefully you and the Midget will be out and about before too long.

This health thing's a bummer isn't it?

Good morning Ian (it's me). What a shocker, but I'm glad you are on the upward spiral now. Time as well as medication is a great healer. I wish you the very best for that speedy recovery you desire. Biking is also a good sort of medicine that gets you through bad times methinks.

Aye Ian,

It may seem trite, but I found when I was suffering from the busted tib and fib and infection had set in that a grin to yourself in the bathroom mirror and a quietly spoken "Good morning, I am going to get better and keep smiling.", kept the positive thoughts in the head. Going out after 6 weeks and starting "Sally" the SRX600, on the kickstart, was also a real fillip! ;D Didn't do the fractures healing a favour, but didn't worsen the situation, thank goodness.

Manx radio AM, if you are into live Isle of Man Manx GP and Classic TT racing, the Junior MGP, using Supertwins, is on now!

Keep at it and all the best, Bill
