It's a while since I've been out on the B'Zuki but yesterday had a couple of hours free so jumped on for a quick run round. It started on the button and was running very nicely as I turned onto the roundabout between the A435 and the Henley Road just a few miles from home.
Leaving the roundabout the clutch lever suddenly went floppy. The bar end nipple had pulled off. I was able to get the bike off the road quite easily and called Britannia Rescue who arrived with a huge flatbed lorry after an hour or so of sitting on a grassy bank in the shade, and I was quickly conveyed back home I did have a nice chat with a bloke who stopped to have a look - he had a Trident tucked up at home but mostly rode a Suzuki. Also a couple of motorcyclists stopped to check I was OK which was nice, as well as a few thumbs up from car drivers....
So why the shame? It was a nipple I'd soldered on myself. This is the first one I can remember coming off - I must have made dozens of cables in the past. I can only think it was a rushed job or that I didn't splay the cable out suffiviently in the nipple counterbore. Anywas now fixed although the gearbox end is a pig to get at.
