Well it`s been a long time but we finally completed the sale of our house !  the last few weeks have been frantic but not really stessful. I am now living in N Yorks with family until we find the right house in Dumfries.    so... bikes, the Royal Enfield has been broken for a few weeks and is up at the dealer waiting for a new petrol tank under warranty. Luckily i wouldnt have had much chance of riding it, however as i need something a bit quicker than my little italian 50`s for longer runs i had to buy another bike !!!  And the new bike is....a Condor a3 350, but it has a cb250rs motor, it should arrive next week. It sounds like it has been well put together by the gentleman that built it, he used it for long european trips two up.  Photo to follow

Aye Rufus, congratulations on selling your place. Just watch out for the 2nd homers buying up the affordable stuff in D&G, after they have sold their over-inflated city houses to go "remote working"! 

As for the Condom, with a CB250RS engine, now that sounds like a very good bit of kit. Light and low, strong cycle parts and a good engine that maybe easier and cheaper to maintain than a Ducati 350 engine, allbeit in "soft" tune. This looks like the beastie! Link: Condom_with_CB250RS_engine

Hey Rufus

Nice to hear things have gone well. Terrible isn't it when you just have to buy another bike! The Condor looks really useful (though I wish people wouldn't photograph things at silly angles) and with a Honda engine will be reliable. Have lots of fun playing with your new toy mate and enjoy searching the Dumfries area for a new house. I have spent some good times with my mate riding D&G as his partner's mum lives in Kirkgunzeon (not sure if I've spelled that right) and can thoroughly recommend it.

This is rather off on a tangent. As I become more antiquated I often find myself on tangents. Dumfries and Galloway was once part of the old kingdom of Strathclyde,or Alt Clud,to use the original Welsh name. The kingdom survived as a Welsh region until the Norman Conquest,and Welsh (Cumbric) was still spoken there until the 12th or 13th centuries. Cumbria was also a Welsh kingdom until relatively late on. The original spelling being Cymbria (or something similar), the cym having the same derivation as Cymru for modern Wales. It means literally brotherhood o something like that. I was aware that early in the last century Cumbrian shepherds still counted their flocks in antiquated Welsh, but was astonished to hear on country file the other day young girls on a Cumbrian farm still doing so!

This could possibly make my friend Susan the most British person ever. She was born in Northern Ireland, moved to D&G aged 5 and now lives in Derbyshire! With the Welsh/Scottishness of D&G she has technically lived in every part of Britain. Can't wait to tell her as she has never mentioned the Welsh connection.

That’s great news!

Its a lovely part of the world (I have family in Castle Douglas and KKB), roads and cafes are good, coastline is wonderful. Dumfries often underwater in heavy rain, but assume your house is not near Whitesands!

Perhaps there could be a late summer meetup of Scottish Thumpers?
