A nice suprise
« on: May 21, 2021, 09:05:26 AM »
I have spent the last few years helping a young lad with his GB500, shown him how to change fork seals, fitted a new cam chain and a few other little jobs. I got a call from him last week saying did I want the bike he  learned to ride on as he was moving house and didnt have anywhere to keep it or work on it. Its a Yamaha YB100 1980 model, it was in a bad state, very rusty, but its given me a nice little project to do :)

That's due to the good karma you were generating 👍😃

mthee yes I think you are right, good karma :) I have the bike stripped down and have started the restoration. The XBR goes for its mot today, I hope it passes but Im not looking forward to riding in this horrendous weather, its a full on gale down here on the south coast

Same gale blowing here, on the SE coast. I don't envy you being out in it.  In fact it's so bad that I haven't been able to do my first ride on the long-awaited and  recently acquired W650. First it was thunderstorms and now this, IN MAY! grrrr!

A most lovely surprise indeed and I bet a useful one when you have it up and running again. There is a lot to be said for having a small, lightweight bike in the garage for when you just want to pop somewhere and can't be bothered to drag out a large lump. Well done for helping the next generation too.

Itsme, yes it would be good to have a small bike just to get around on, and Suzanne is wondering about taking her cbt again :)

Just goes to show what a little help and guidance can lead to Jools. Refreshing to hear about that in this day and age. You should end up with a nice usable little bike.

Regards

Progress on the YB100, all done with things I had in my shed, paint, nuts and bolts and cleaning products. I had to buy 2 fork shrouds and the handlebars. Total cost so far £34. The expense starts now, new rims and spokes, rear shocks, new downpipe and silencer, new brake shoes and chain and sprocket and new front and rear mudguards
