Not too good a weekend for me, had a split fuel tank (alloy) on the XBR racer & by the time that was patched (3 times) I missed all the Saturday practice (£75 ouch!).
Sunday morning all went well, bike sounded good (loud!) & revved freely in the paddock. Passed scruteneering easy & all was well going to the warm up session, got out on the track & cruised round the first couple of corners then tried to open up (spit pop spit pop spit pop etc. etc.), wouldn't pick up cleanly at all until 7000 revs then came in sweet as a nut (all the way up to the 8000+ redline) very nice!, but impossible to ride and nearly had me off a couple of times while trying to clear it. Decided to pull in as I was now all over the track & a danger to the other riders now whizzing past (boy, are they bloody quick!).
Sought some advice & was informed that the carb was to big (what do I know, it came on the bike?), so no racing for me over the weekend.
Still enjoyed the weekends racing though & helped out where I could (well both me & my son john H). Watched Andy Duncan do well (two more signatures).
Have now formulated a plan of action to stop losing all this money spent on entering meets & not competing. Will now only do practice days at Mallory Park, get the bike running right & get some much needed practice in & then only enter meets when i'm up to speed (if ever!).
Again, well done Andy. See you at Pembrey (if all goes well)
