Yes ok Martin, it’ll be my pleasure. I’ll drag him out on to the driveway and try to get his good side. There’s some lovely little details in there, but you’d really need to see him in the flesh to appreciate some of the details.
You’ve probably gathered he is a him and not a her. With it being a spitfire I felt I should call it a typically British name from the 40’s.... someone who may have actually flown a spitfire for us during the war. Bit of a metaphorical tip of my hat to those guys.  So he’s called Stanley.
Stanley the spitfire 👍🇬🇧
Cheers, Michael

First off.., big thanks once again to Matt for taking the time to pop the photos up for me.
I’ve tried to get a few different angles but as I mentioned before the more up close you get to it the more little details pop out at you.... lovely built machine.
Cheers, Michael

Hi Michael

Bloody lovely looking machine. I didn't know until some years later but the man who ran our Saturday morning art class when I was a child had been a Spitfire pilot during the war. He had a name that I will never forget, but fear it would not be right for a Stanley the Spitfire. His name was Vitold Kawalitz (I probably haven't spelled that correctly). Polish Air Force. Ho hum.

Wow, the Poles don't get anything like the recognition they deserve for their contribution to the allied war effort, and to cap it all, the allies left them high and dry at the end of the war.

Polish 303 squadron was the highest scoring squadron in the BOB, and I believe I'm right in saying that more members of the Polish armed forces made it over here after Dunkirk than any other European nation, second only to Britain...

In the dim and distant past I was a technical apprentice with the Central Electricity Generating Board. One of my stints was in the instrument repair shop at North Tees power station. The chargehand there was a Pole who rejoiced in the name of Stan Drummond - I have a suspicion it wasn't original...

He had originally been a watchmaker but escaped to England and became a Spitfire pilot although he never spoke about those experiences. Lovely bloke.

I wish more people would remember what brave blokes the Poles were during the war and stop going on about them as lazy.

Been a lovely day today and I bet you have been straining at the leash Michael. Still I imagine just looking at Stanley is still a massive pleasure.

Spartacus.

Ian - safe bet that Stan Drummond didn't get called that in Poland!
