How is it that when you put your cursor to the members name it shows 'View members profile' click and then in the next window say's 'you are not allowed' WHY?. Facebook has a free hand in looking at other peoples profile why not here. It would be nice to know members first names and whereabouts they live. Maybe there is a logical explanation, or maybe I am not logical!!!!!!!

So there are a couple of points here. First this isn't Facebook, and whilst Facebook its a useful platform and provides great features, they haven't exactly been at the forefront when it comes to protecting peoples privacy.
The forums option for viewing other peoples profiles is off by default, if I were to enable it then everyone's email/details would be visible to members, which may be useful to members, but even more useful to tools which harvest email address with a view to spamming you with offers.
Everyone has a different view on privacy,GDPR was introduced so you can make your own choices. I cannot see an option for members to opt out of having their profile visible, so the vast majority would need to agree before I would be prepared to change the config to allow viewing of other members profiles.

People can always follow your lead and add their name, etc, by personalising their profile. Best wishes, Matt(ilda)????

Thanks Stephanie
I prefer it as it is, and those who wish can put location under their avatar, and sign off posts. Or indeed use their name as part of their username.

MichaelA, just imagine having my name - everyone assumes I'm a brassy barmaid form the 70s and misses the last letter. Except those under 30 who insist on calling me Brandon.
