Old film! 1938-1939
« on: April 16, 2020, 05:39:28 PM »
My Great Uncle, 'Jummer' Blacklocks making fastest time on the hill climb!  ;D

All a bit grainy and amateur, but gives a good idea of the crowds and what various competitions involved.

Hope you enjoy!

Wow! Loved that  ;D Biking passed on down the generations in your family, Bill? Only my uncles before me and no youngsters coming up yet.

Yes I was lucky, my dad had been a biker in his youth so was quite encouraging when big bro started to take an interest in them. That then obviously planted the seeds for me. So far though non of the offspring look likely to be swinging a leg over a bike of the motorised type...

When my best mate turned 16 and got an SS50, I wanted in on the fun, but I knew one of my biking uncles had had a bad smash and thought my mum would never allow it. I still remember going into the lounge one night with my reasoning and counter arguments all rehearsed.

"Dad? Can I get a little moped, like Paul's? It's not very fast and I'll be really careful and it'd save you giving me lifts everywhere and.." Dad cuts in with, "Of course you can son, they're loads of fun. I'll talk to your mum.  ::) :o !!!???

Turns out my dad had a C90 to get around in Hull in his youth, but never told me.  ;D

That film was made just near where I live and I walk in parts of the track quite often. Hope you enjoy it...
