TT...IOM info??
« on: June 01, 2019, 03:35:40 PM »
Afternoon all, my mate turns the big five oooo next year (lucky sod, wish I was😢) Anyway he's fancying going over to the IOM for a long weekend to watch a bit of racing at the TT. So I'm wanting any info from anyone who's been over the years or who just happens to live on the island (name withheld to protect the innocent😉) best places to stay mainly,  defo not camping. We are thinking of possibly flying over and not taking our bikes on the ferry. Both been to the island for different bike related events but never the TT.  Any info whatsoever would be appreciated at this stage.
Thanks in advance...... Michael

Hello Michael. This year`s TT is a disaster so far, only had two practice runs due to the weather. The race schedule has been revised, revised and revised again, and the forecast doesn`t look great for the time being  :(

It depends on what you want mate. The main action and attractions are in Douglas of an evening. So I`d suggest that if you want to be in amongst it all. If you want a quieter life you could try homestay in the country? My mate is actually converting his house at the moment which he`s hoping will be ready by the end of July this year. The obvious problem with being out of Douglas is you would need transport to get about.

Let me know what you`re thinking of doing and I`ll try to think of the best thing for you? One thing for sure it`ll be bloody expensive. A TC member recently visited I believe, (may still be here) although I didn`t meet him, but he may be able to suggest something too?

Aye Michael,

Steve's your man! ;D

We thought about the Manx ("Classic TT", whatever?!) and found that DEEP pockets would be required and that the best option was probably a 'basher' in Tholt-y-will or another Lands and Mines Board wood.  ;)

If we were to go across to watch racing, I think the Southern100 would get the vote. Still has a club feel about it and the racing is quite fast enough. The Pre-TT Classic racing around the same circuit on Monday, May 27th, was really good to listen to on Manx Radio AM and with the lap times on the Southern100 Club website, it was good to follow. But, the TT has taken over the accommodation and with the consequent price hikes. :(

As Steve says, if the weather is iffy then the delays and thumb twiddling can be vexatious, whilst if the weather fairies are compliant the whole event can be glorious.

Good luck, Bill

Many thanks Steve and Bill. Information duly noted and will be passed on to my mate who's "gig" it will be. Said we'd gather any info possible over the coming months then sit down over a couple o shandy's and suss out which route to go down. Again thanks for taking the time chaps.... cheers, Michael
