Ian, in fact you have made me feel better! As you say, I am not alone in my concerns and that does actually give me cheer.

My first mpg calculation has been 46mpg, which is considerably lower than the 120mpg I used to get for my excellently fuel-injected YBR125. I am hoping that I can improve on the 46mpg as I don't know how much was used when being tested by the shop in the last week. Additionally, on my testing on Saturday I ran it at 90mph (following vigorous acceleration), which is far greater a speed than I normally do and that will guzzle the fuel on a naked machine.

I will see how I cope with it before cogitating more about the power commander. It would be interesting to get one fitted to see if its any good, and then decide whether I want to buy it!

Hi All
Is the light thing also a little like the oil warning light on the RD500 - it comes on when you switch on, and a couple of other circumstances - it is years since the bike worked and I cannot remember - basically as a check that the bulb is working, as running out of stroker oil would not be a good thing.  Ditto the engine warning / ECU light on the car comes on when you switch on so you know it is working?

FI not working in the 3 - 4 K range, hmmmm this would not be the rev range where the noise tests are done would it?  Seem to recall most bikes have a bit of a hole in the carburation at this point to, quietens down the engine loads, and on a 4 cyl sewing machine it either spins thrugh it and you do not realise the drop off or you are wringing it out above this so it is not an issue, with a single you can tend to lug through the rev range - part of the joy of them.

So £300 to fix something Yamaha should have fixed themselves, nope £300 to fix somethign Yamaha are forced to build in by "law" and public demand.  We want bikes with more than 2 gnat power and the old biddy wants a bike that is quieter than her vibrator (for her frozen shoulder).  I guess where things fall down is none of the manufacturers are going to advertise the fact that there is a hole in the powerband, despite it being there on most all bikes.

Could this be the problem/s?

silly suggestion here, but here we go.

Am not sure you'd want to do it, but hypothertically,

couldn't you just put carbs on it?  I mean, I know the 2x YDIS carb set up is a total palaver, but works ok for general road riding.  My skorpion (660, carbs, clamp on filters) is lovely to ride, doesn't hunt or anything.

The motor is a bit down on power and could do with a freshen up after 10,000 miles, but no probs with fuelling.

Or rather, why not just bolt in a carburetted motor and CDI?

GAH!!  >:(  technology!  I know I am a terrible luddite, but FI?  Thanks but no thanks for me.

cheers, and good luck bruce, let us know what you decide/ how you fix,

cheers

(I mean truely!) how a computer chip works?? (Andy don't answer that) We use this stuff daily yet remain nieve.

Yeah, I've designed a few and a complete ECU too.

That would be my guess too.
