i'd like recommendations for the best engine cleaning agent

I've tried gunk, and it just doesn't seem to do as good a job as it used to ... so i wondered what others were using....

Nothing much beats good old paraffin imho,  but if you want to go all modern and biodegradable, then autoglym degreaser is pretty good.

Thanks, yes, i read up on Autoglym.... seems to be the front runner at present .....  unless anyone knows different of course ....  , ??

Also... i see there is Gunk 'ultra' now.... anyone tried that ?

I always preferred Jizer but like Gunk I think it's a modern watered down environmentally friendly product .......

Aye Steve,

Jizer is no bad, but not what it used to be. Gunk, I haven't purchased in a while, so cannot comment on it's efficacy. AutoGlym degreaser works very well, just be aware that if it gets on paintwork in sunlight and heat, it may alter it's appearance; not severely, but produces a streaky appearance.

I use parafin and AutoGlym degreaser for engine cleaning afore dismantling. Once stripped, parafin followed by brake cleaner for parts.

Yes Bill, looks like Autoglym is coming out top....  will have to get some today, as i've organised #1 grandson (with the promise of 20 quid) to come and clean #8 now that i've (nearly ) finished fettling it..
all this lovely weather ... and not one serviceable bike to enjoy it with ...

I still like Jizer, especially the smell when you start the engine up. It's very expensive for what it is though. Gunk is (and always was) horrible stuff.

Sympathies Steve, lovely day on Saturday, nice leisurely run lined up with Kat on the Bros and it decided to fry the CDI by one of the pulse generators going AWOL!   Have spent the time tracing the faults, bearing in mind that CDI units cannot be tested except by replacement, and now await the supply of spare parts and consumables, with the Bros clutch case off!

Now we have rain and sleet driven by a cool Arctic breeze!

Stove in the workshop well fuelled and Duke progressing, slowly.

ok... #1 grandson came round yesterday, and we attacked #8 with autoglym, gunk & carplan engine cleaner .... autoglym came out top , bike looks a lot better now, once it's ready for mot we;ll give it another go,
grandson £20 happier, and bike looks like someone actually loves it now.
