XBR crankcase breather mod question
« on: March 31, 2017, 02:59:53 PM »
I'm planning to fit the XBR with a one way crankcase breather valve as Joolz & Mthee  have done with their bikes over the next few days. I've just had the bike out to have a look where it's got to go and how to route the pipe and a question occurs.

The original XBR breather goes from the engine into a catch tank in front of the air filter - is there any reason I can't retain the catch tank and plumb the valve into the existing piping ( or cut new if need) so that it continues to vent into the catch tank? Will this effect the one way valve? or do I need to have it venting straight out of the pipe into atmosphere?

Thanks.

I was going to reuse the original black rubber breather, but it looked a bit perished, so went with Jules clear tubing. I also thought this would allow me to see any oil coming out as I was worried about possibly clogging the valve. Joolz said his hasn't clogged in 5 years. I might replace mine with thicker-walled tubing to prevent the current kinking. As to where it vents, because it doesn't suck, you can take your pick. I kept mine venting over the front cog and no oil has been evident, fingers crossed. Anyway, Joolz is the man to ask, so I'd wait for him.

Hmmm....that's what I was thinking.  My bike is pretty original and while I'm not too pedantic, I would like to keep it as original as possible and this seemed a neat solution if it will still work ( though I will cut new pipe so that I can keep the original intact). As you say I'll wait for Joolz

No problem at all plumbing the 1 way valve between the crankcase and the catch tank
