350 or 500 Bullet?
« on: March 13, 2016, 10:04:03 AM »
Hi fella`s, just a quickie  :o I have put my Fazer on manx.net looking for a swap for a thumper. I have been offered a 350 Bullet but don`t know if it would meet my needs? I`m a fat bugger and don`t mind cruising around at 60mph ish, will a 350 do this or would I be better of walking away from it? Would a 500 be much different if I was offered one? Cheers, Steve.

I'd hold out for the 500 myself, I think you would find the 350 annoying underpowered for comfortable 60mph crusing especially if you are on the big side.

From personal experience, the 350 will eventually get you to 60 but it won't particularly feel like it is that happy. Add in the fact that when you get to that speed it'll be time to slow down.  ;D

I've never ridden the 500 so I don't know. How do the hp figures compare?

19.8hp for the 350 and 26.1hp for the 500, looks like if I`m offered a RE in a deal on the Fazer, it needs to be the 500!! Cheers fella`s.  ;)

I've a 2001 500 Bullet, and to be honest, its happy cruising at only 55mph. Cruise at 60 for sustained periods of time, and I burn the exhaust valve, from personal experience. Now, just to confuse the issue, mine is the classic engine. It has since been surpassed by the leanburn engine which may have a higher cruising speed, and then the EFI engine which will definitely sit at motorway speeds. So, you need to know which 500 as well    :-\
The 350 will sit at the same speed as mine, and is, I'm told, a smoother engine.

??? cheers Tim  ??? I`m not sure of the age of the bike but don`t think its a newer one, I don`t think this one in particular will meet my needs. Cheers.

The 350 is a bit like zero to 60 in an afternoon the 500 makes it by 3.30.

My old 350 would do 60mph all day, it was an old British made model, top speed on a good day maybe 70 flat out tops, never any reliability problems except a blown head gasket miles from anywhere fixed with 2 adjustable spanners, top end off threw the gasket away bebolted the head adjusted the push rods and off I went
