Anyone got any sensible techniques for draining the last dregs out of a petrol tank to ensure there isnt any water before refilling ?.

You can use this :

.
Put the tank almost vertical.
This is a known problem with the SRX. There's almost some gazoline left in the tank, even when empty.
After that use an air compressor and huff in the tank.
Then put some acetone on the tank and shake it well in every direction. Let the acetone evaporate.
