i enjoyed the thundersprint but im not going to bloody anglesea. its becoming a bit of a nomadic event, not putting any roots down. iirc it started as a sprint at hoghton tower, then it went to southport, then three sisters, then northwich and now anglesey. good luck to him, anglesey is a lovely place. but its a lovely place cos its fecking miles from anywhere and thats why nobody goes!

I think it should be a good venue, Northwich Towncentre is too congested and riding around a carpark doesn't impress. It was far better at the Three Sisters Track where you could sit on the grass banking and look down on the track. I haven't been to the Anglesey Circuit, but it can't be worse than the park at Southport.
Frank's been at it for a few years now and should know what the visitors expect.

Here are some more details from Frank, as emailed to my Better Half:

"We have just received confirmation regarding what we can do at the Thundersprint. There will no doubt be some fine tweaks but in essence this is what the event will look like. Clearly, don’t be discomforted by the event title – we have to fit into an ACU approved box which, at the moment, is a Regularity Hillclimb but might be subject to re-titling.

We will have entry forms available in about two weeks but if you would like to reserve a ride now then just send me a note with your name and the bike you intend riding.

I have included a circuit map so that you can see the whole complex. We will be using the full, international circuit which is effectively the long loop round the whole track. It is a cracking ride – one of the best in the world.

Thundersprint Regularity Hillclimb at the Anglesey Circuit – Sunday 21 April:

1) There will be the same safety rules as with all other Thundersprints. Absolutely no riding in the paddock and track access by wristband only. These regulations are for an identical reason to all other Thundersprints: we are expecting a huge crowd.

2) We will have access to the paddock from Saturday morning so do come early, get your bike scrutineered and enjoy Anglesey. There is a lot to see very close to the circuit from Neolithic burial chambers – but probably no racing chariots - to surfing at Cable Bay and some excellent restaurants in nearby Rhosneigr. Spend a weekend here and you can see why we re-located.

3) In the morning, there will be 3 x 15 minute (approximately) track sessions (i.e. a day’s club racing). This will be on the full, 2.1 mile international circuit. Riders will be in three speed groups. You will be able to request a change of group and, subject to space, we will accommodate you.

4) In the afternoon there will be a truly spectacular variation on sprint racing: welcome to Regularity Hillclimbing!

You will get one attempt of the whole 2.1 mile lap at Anglesey. We also hope to fit in a sighting lap too but this is subject to the vagaries of time since you will have already “practised” in the morning.

You will not be racing in pairs, threes or in a mass start. You will start singly.

However, we will be running more than one bike on the track at any one time. The idea will be to release riders at a safe distance from each other – probably six seconds or thereabouts.

If you take a medium level rider, like me, I would expect to get round Anglesey in 120 seconds. Releasing riders at around 6 second intervals would mean we can deal with 15 riders giving 90 seconds running time and a 40 second margin for safety. This assumes that some riders will be quicker than me and some slower.

Passing would be permissible using Thunderfest regulations of no closer than 2m and this would not affect your time because the transponder would still record your time regardless of where you finished on the track.

At the end of the finishing straight, riders would return to the paddock via the pit access road.

We would sub-divide any class with more than 15 entrants to ensure complete safety.

If for any reason there were to be an incident, the whole class can be red flagged on the penultimate straight and brought back into the paddock without any danger of reaching the start straight.

If things went really, utterly astonishingly well there might even be a chance for two runs – although I think that this will be unlikely.

The idea would be to give a real sense of fun, safe competition whilst providing spectators with an interesting and entertaining spectacle.

Riders who do not have their own transponder could hire one on the day.

5) Lunchtime Cavalcade. This will be two and a bit laps of the whole circuit at a gentle speed led by a pace vehicle. It’s a crowd waving exercise – not a race or track day – but will be a little faster than previous years to protect clutches and hot engines.

Total cost all in £90 for Thundersprint Regularity Hillclimb participants or £30 for the Cavalcade

Just to confirm, for your £30 entry fee into the Cavalcade you get two x £10 admission tickets, a £20 camping pass and paddock parking. So effectively the Cavalcade costs minus a tenner. "
