oil leak in a MuZ /Yammie 660 engine.
« on: August 16, 2012, 10:33:59 AM »
Hi Guys, I am currently working on getting the MuZ back into service and I have noticed a small unthreaded hole that has been cast into the head at manufacture in the middle of the right hand side of the head. My engine has had a weep for a long time but this looks like this hole was spewing oil out of here with more than a smudge down the side of the engine casing.
I found it when I was dismantling the fairing. The hole also seemed to be full of black sludgy oil. I havent ridden it for about 18months and want to get it sorted. Is this hole used by yamahas for an oil line maybe. there is nothing noted in the MuZ Skorp Parts Manual. If this hole was threaded, it could be used to hold a cable holder.

It sounds similar to a hole in the head of my Fazer 1000.  That's used to drain water away from the spark plugs when it gets drenched (like when I wash it). A few minutes on the side stand sees most of the water drain away.

Of course, I may be barking up the wrong tree altogether ;)

Thanks, Trev.   That is logical. Ill drip some wd40 down the spark plug recess. On my sidestand it would naturally pool at the back of the hole. I've still got to work out where the oil leak is I reckon it is weeping from the valve cover where the plug goes into the head.
