I renewed my bike insurance with Carole Nash today. 3 bikes, one with a sidecar. I wanted to know why they were all given in the renewal letter as having "no modifications", when I'd rung them in May to tell them about the sidecar. After the chap had rummaged for a bit, he told me that although they'd made a note of it, it wasn't mentioned because "a sidecar doesn't count as a modification to the bike".
So, I'd have had to notify them for a change of exhaust (ahem) for example, but adding an extra wheel, which completely transforms the vehicle into something else, "doesn't count as a modification". Oh, and the bike is covered third party, fire & theft, but apparently there's only third party on the sidecar.
For once, though, I'm impressed with the service - apparently the Norwich Union policy I was renewing no longer covers the riding of other bikes. I asked if he could enquire whether they would include this cover for me as an existing customer renewing my policy, and rather than filing his nails and saying no, he went and asked, and they have.
However, given past experience with CN, I now fully expect to receive three copies of someone else's details, mentioning none of the above
