vacuum pipe srx600
« on: August 12, 2011, 06:52:17 PM »
Hi all
I replaced the inlet rubbers this week on my srx 600 1986 with some i picked up on fleabay about two years ago
I never noticed that there was no vacuum pipe to the fuel tap on the inlet so my problem is do I wait for another inlet rubber to appear on fleabay, fit a free flow fuel tap or ive read some were that the original one can be made to free flow, could the inlet be drilled out and pipe added this as been a 4 year project so thers no real hurry but i did have it running last week for the first time with a khihein cr35 smoth bore carb so I'm keen to get going cheers any advice appreciated

I removed the vacuum diaphragm cover, carefully removed the rubber diaphragm and then fitted the spring to the opposite side of the diaphragm to ensure it was always open.

True but I wanted to retain a 'reserve' position

could be that they are both a right hand one. do they both have a 'cut out' rather than a hole on the lower mounting bolt?

no idea, and i get wrong every time.the only way i can tell is to put some fuelin and switch  it on.if it comes out of both pipes, the one it comes out of first is reserve. if it only comes out of one pipethen that one is reserve. hope this helps.

Ta

When I run the tank down I will be able to tell, but having filled the tank up to the top its going to take some time. I took the bike out for a good run on the motorway yesterday only to have the bike die on me several times, hard shoulders are not a fun place. Left it for a couple of mins and it went again.

Checked the flow to the main valve and found it very slow so there was a obviously a blockage. Having taken the tank stop valve/ filter asm out in the past to turn over the sealing rubber gasket and smeared it with silicon sealant when I did it I was worried I had done something wrong. So I extended the pipe and blow up it. It sure was blocked, then glug it cleared  ;D. Now I'm worried it might have been the filter in the tank that was blocked and all my huffing and puffing split the filter.  :(

I went out afterwards and purchased an in line filter and will do try and fit it in line from the main valve to the carb, its going to be tight! ::)

My right side has the cutout while the left one has 2 holes and the vaccum line. At least thats the way it was when I got the bike.
