Everyone has the right to do what they like to their machine/body/whatever, but by that same token, (and especially when the alteration is soooo obviously in the public domain) every other person has simular right of coment :-)

"You stuffed a turkey on your head and ponced about the streets wanting attention, then I can call you a plonker"

I'm with GC, adornment for 'image' only deserves my disapproval. (unless I like it of course ;-)  )

AH, but if you were to pull a rusty old relic from a hedge and make it work without cleaning it, or painting it (as Garahm suggested), isn't that just as much about appearance as weilding a can of matt black would be? Cleaning bikes is normal maintenance. Er, did I say that? I'll return my membership card immediately, in advance of excommunication. When I receive it ;-)

As my old House Master used to say to me:

1   "Opinions are like arseholes, everybodies got one!"

2   "One mans meat is another mans poison"

and finally.....

3   "There's room in the world for everyone!"

Actually no! The bike is what it is and no effort has been made to make it look like something it isn't. Of course, as we assess objects by sight, there will be an 'appearance' but the key here is one persons attempt to create an appearance, rather than the object (ie rat bike) being what it is.

I think I just confused myself :-?

Yes, but by deliberately leaving all the sh*te all over it, you're making a feature of its cruddiness. rather than cleaning it up before riding it.

I think the terms are misleading anyway. "Rat bike" usually does mean am old bike with some matt black paint blown over it. What we're talking about, is a "shed" ;-)

Clearly that's the only thing that could account for a string of Cliches like that.

Mind you its interesting because Plato described the visible world as the realm of becoming the description of which was founded in opinion, true knowledge is only available through contemplation of the Good. Therefore knowledge is only to be found on the other side of the divided line or outside the cave so to speak...what this means in motorcycle terms is a complex issue. Perhaps best left till the Dragon....no just joking!!

honest!!

Aye Pat,

Turkey, eH! Good chuckle vision! Then my nasty mind wandered!

Got your cartilage bits in the pelvic region sorted yet? Keep taking the Tomintoul 'medicine'!

Nope :-( We've (Doc and I) have gone to level two, with a three pronged drug attack backed up with physio. If that doesn't start improving matters, then we're onto steriod injections with surgery as a last resort.

SteveH has kindly provided a link to the forum post that let you know, but just to clarify, I will distribute your new affiliate memberships when they arrive.

Got mine today. Thanks Pat.

Really only doing this to try and get a 'full-house ' of replies on the forum. Do I win a prize?

That's nasty Pat,

3 drugs and physio, steroid injections, operate! Mmmmmm!

Is a little gentle stretching from the workshop rafters a 'NO GO'?

Just hope the NHS sledge hammer doesn't break the cracked nut!

Go canny.

Of course Guatama countered along the lines that because everything is in a constant state of flux and all things are merely our reaction to what our senses tell us in the current instant then the motorcycle in the hedge doesn't actually exist.... whether or not it is washed ;-))
