XBR hydraulic brake restoration - master cylinder question

I cleaned my master cylinder thoroughly and began to doubt myself upon reassembly. Which way do the cups go on the piston? Do they go as I recall: both cups facing the thread-part of the piston (meaning the cups "open faces" are facing each other)?

My piston boot was torn to bits and I have no idea on where to find one locally (in Finland), so I think I'll try to manage without one.

Can you make a boot out of an old pushbike innertube, using some method of clipping it to both cylinder and rod using tiewraps or something similar.....

just a thought.....

I made one for my CB9 out of the neck bit of a balloon. It looked crap cos it was bright blue but it stayed in there and did the trick. I've never managed to get one out without tearing it and you can't buy them on their own, you have to get the whole bloody piston kit.

hi kaff   one cup faces the threaded part of the piston and the next one faces the spring  ...tommy

Thanks Tommy - I felt that might be the case but wasn't quite sure.
