driving licence
« on: January 08, 2007, 02:20:39 PM »
I read this over the last week in the Daily Telegraph, re DVLA having not recorded everyones bike test in their latests computer update. This means that if you past your test several years ago they now have no record of it except your own licence.
So if you loose it and you don't have proof of passing your test (and who does) you no longer have a bike licence. Cunning plan baldrick to get us off the roads me thinks. The onus is on us to prove we have passed the test.
So the advice was to photocopy your licence and keep the copy safe in case you need proof later on.

Don't know how much truth there was in this but better be safe than sorry.

there's been quite a lot of this going on over at the dvla. mostly licences being returned after change of address and other changes without the catergories they had originally. i read of one hgv driver who got his licence returned without hgv on it, and so no work until he retook his test. unbelieveable.
i don't think they're trying to get us off the roads i think its down to pure incompetence. besides they've got far more effective ways of stopping people riding bikes.
anyone understand the new licence laws and tougher tests? all for those on bikes not the useless bastards in cages.
if biking was classed as a religeon they wouldn't dare do half the things they've done to us.

Happened to a friend of mine a few years ago, and he was a Police Sergeant.

Had to retake his test and everything.  Rather embarassing really.

I moved house in May and made sure I kept a photocopy. Retaking 3 tests (Bike, Car and HGV) wasn't going to happen.

Good news is it turned out OK and my plan regarding expired points worked too; I knew they wouldn't be bothered to write the old points on a license with a new address. I was ready for a returned form asking for more cash and was going to tell them i'd keep them, but I bet they get that all the time.
