Hey mart.....................assuming the luggage rack is for your srx, would like some details/pics/measurements (or even the one you made as a spare :-) ) It's just wot i'm planning to make prior to IOM trip in June. But as my family (or parts of it) call me the teflon welder (as in non-stick) I may have to farm the job out... pip pip

Steve , I did not make the rack myself. I bought the tube, got a friend [ heating engineer] to bend it to my pattern and got another friend [blacksmith] to weld it. It is not yet on the bike so I don't know how well it works. I am thinking of getting my own pipe bending tool and welder to save having to impose on friends who are not interested in doing it on a commercial basis and if they were it would be expensive. I will post pictures when it is on the bike and let you know how well it works. mart

Cheers Mart......I actually have those very tools (pipe bender and welder) just a question of how well i can use them :-) (and I AM referring to the welder and bender)

Steve, I think I have just posted a picture of the new rack on the projects page. It should appear in a day or so; of course it may appear on the members bikes page instead; or as well. This rack was made to fit a 1JK model [my latest acquisition] The drilled plates at the rear are to accommodate the repositioned indicators clear of the throwovers. Hope this helps. I still have my Mk.I which was for a 1XL. I think Boyd may have expressed an interest in it. If he does not want it it is yours. It bolts on in place of the grab rail. It is a little bit crooked but works OK. I'll talk to Boyd and let you know the outcome. Mart

Out of interest Mart what sort of pipe bender did he use, was it the typical plumbing pipe bender designed for copper or one design for steel pipe.

Hey Steve, if you had been to any of the meets that I have been to on my SRX you would have seen the one that I made and have used all over the place. It secures to the last two bolts at the rear of the bike and two underneath the rear subframe. Very strong and can carry loads of gear, in fact I can lift the rear of the buike quite easily off the ground with it and it comes off very quickly once I have reached my destination.
Oh and by the way I made a jig for it as I made it!

I have just cut off the down bars to the passenger footpegs as they are only there to stop the panniers from swinging under the rear of the bike but seem to work OK without.
