Dragon 2007
« on: October 17, 2006, 10:43:28 PM »
I have today been in touch with Petes' eats in Llanberis and can confirm that I have arranged that a young lady called Sharon has pencilled in the use of the bunkhouse accommodation for our club use. This comprises two double rooms and bunkhouse room. To date I am aware that Steffan has arranged for four berths and I have taken another, Beeman another, Terry another and I think GC another. This will leave four more bunks available and the two twin rooms. It will be pertinent to call Petes directly and book should you so wish to ensure a bed. Sharon also said that the pub opposite is biker friendly and she was going to see if bikes could be parked on the pub parking facility for the evening.

Comrade Edwards and I were thinking that on the Friday morning we could ride over and join the Rhayader folk for breakfast, before taking in a particularly scenic route we know to North Wales, from the NW corner of Vyrnwy to the SW bottom of Bala, then on toward Trawsfynydd of the third eye before aiming for Llanberis and Petes via Beddgelert and the Warws.

We are still fussing over which bikes to take, with MZs preferred, but options on an Enfield and XT.

I daresay some of you know the roads we are on about but they are amongst the best we have found in our North Wales B road bashes.

Steve - am I right in thinking a double room is still available? If so my brother and his partner would be interested.

Rang Sharon at Pete's Eats this morning and I can confirm that the last double room has been reserved for (your) brother Carrick and his partner.
This now makes the accommodation in the bunkhouse now fully booked.

Over and out!

GC and myself just arrived at Pete's Eats about half two. Plenty of snow about, some of the high passes had a fair covering - Simon

Hi, GC here, using the bunkhouse's free interent access. As Sim said the passes were a bit of a cow, the one before Dolgellau in particular where we both had a massive loss of power just before the snowcovered hairpin bend (eek!) Altitude? icing? who knows? Gareth, Liz and rick all reported exactly the same symptom at the same point... most disconcerting for all involved.

The riding has been pretty dreadful. The roads are mostly clear, but the visibility has been atrocious. The GB suffered carb icing virtually all the way. To make up for the hardship we all had a spiffing Indian meal in Rhayader last night and then retired to the karaoke session in the nearby hotel bar. And yes, I did do my world-famous Jerry Lee Lewis act.

Bunkhouse is cool, very modern and clean and the staff are friendly (although whether that survives tonight's drunkeness remains to be seen). Nobody else has turned up yet so we will probably set about sabotaging all the other bunks.

From what I hear from my sickbed travel from this little corner of Wales is shut down. The venerable Mr Marshall and Morgan set off at lunch time but the roads were impassible by all accounts.

Another gutted one here.It was a bad sign when the bike would not start on Friday morning,I thought I had just flooded it and it would be O.K..I set off from Nottingham, got as far as Nantwich when the snow came down.By Wrexham it was coming down hard and settling on the road.At this point I though 'sod this' and despite having digs booked at Betws went into the first B&B I found and got a room.By morning about six inches had fallen but it was now raining. The wife then rang to say she had taken our son to the emergency doctor in the night, turned out to be an ear infection. Then the bike would not start again. At this point I had had enough and set off for home.Anyway there is always next year.Good luck to all who did make it,have a drink on me.
