Weekend capers!
« on: October 02, 2006, 09:27:28 PM »
Aye to fellow...............'s! [You know who you are.]

Just returned North from a good 2 day British Historic Racing (VMCC racing section) meeting at Cadwell!;-)

My first ever visit to the place! Saturday was a peach of a day with a drying track and good racing all day. Sunday started well. But after a racing incident with one rider and a season of hard abuse finally catching up on another bike, followed by a 'Mother' of a thunderstorm from 10 minutes before lunch finished [14:00hrs] until 15:00hrs, they took the edge off proceedings.

Vans all packed and then watched remainder of shortened programme which finished at 18:00hrs. Moggies on full opposite lock, under power, at the 'Old Hairpin'! ;-)

Martin Smith on a variety of machinery going really well, with two wins by 0.003 secs between the 'Old Hairpin' and the Finish. Paul Dobs on a Scott Flying Squirrel also very impressive with a fall in his first race whilst leading on the last lap at the hairpin X-over for the Woodland circuit and then winning all his remaining races, 8 I think! I enjoy the watching rather than the scribbling in the programme. Plenty of lusty singles including a 'proper' Saturno, Dukes, Cotton, Rudge 'Ulster', Velo, Vinnie Comet, Gold Star's and the luxury AMC, Norton end of proceedings, were 'Big Bucks' for maybe 'Big Bangs' and being a bitch can go hand in hand!

Also found a supplier of Duke single big-ends, we may have progress this winter!

I can also see why people become addicted to the place, especially the 'Woodland' circuit. Sundays racing was on the full circuit, without the dreaded BSB bus stop before the entrance to the cambered left at the start of the run to the 'Mountain'. Oh, delight in the paddock on Saturday night!

Shall try and get some sleep tonight in a dry bed.

Keep boppin', Bill

Sounds good pal!

I should have been there!

But a not-unpleasant time was spent wiring in fluo tubes for the garage.  Running them off the battery nicked from the AmbuWagon.  It has 2, so no worries there!

Have used it now for about 4h, each tube consuming 58W, occaisionally 2 tubes.  No worries, I'm very satisfied!!  Maybe a heatr will be a bit much, but don't need it yet.

Just going to run the inverter "to flat" (or rather to 10.5v, when it cuts out) and see how long I get with a single tube.

Then I won't have to buy a genny this month!  Deferred purchase + money saved (almost!)

Got a workbench from a mate, I am ecstatic!  Will post pics soon,

Cheers

Good evening Gentlemen,

Sorry to read that you are unwell Pat. I am sure the bothy remedy for this malady of an extra duvet or sleeping bag on the bed, a bottle of malt and a 'hot' women [My apologies to your good wife, for my impropriotory, this is not intended to be inflamatory!] will ease the aches and soothe the feverish brow! You wish mate!

Try a panel of cells on the garage roof, Andy. We use them for running weather stations via caravan batteries and also charging AA batteries in the van which we use in the GPS etc.

With the state of the roads up here Smudge I'm no surprised the 'Blue Bomber' looks more like a mobile midden. The farmer here has spent all day with a hired tractor and powered brush trying to keep the A85 clear of crap, as he carts tatties. The effect has been to smear the sandy clay into the tarmac and raise huge dust clouds on a blind but open left hander, which the local razzers take at 80+ and the 'power rangers' attempt a ton at least, before the blind dip at the quarry entrance and then the straight past my place! Wait for the rain! :-(

As for the Moggies Steve, Bill Tuer always has a lovely line and that last damping the track got afore their last race, just encourages him and others to get the back end out. The Mogvin was good on Saturday, before going to the Festival of Sidecars at Mallory on Sunday.

Off to watch Goodwood, Festival of Speed on ITV at 23:00hrs. Hope nobody misses it!

Cheers, Bill

Saw festival of speed on ITV.  Now I know I want to go and I know I would have really loved it - but the prog was about paint drying.  Take a pastime ( petrol buring) and turn it in to embroidery.

However Bilol - are you the man to ask about Amal carbs...

Aye Rog,

ITV coverage of Goodwood confirms my predjudice of the channel. Sycophantic mush, with 'Ruperts' and as much Ooooomph as an orange crush!

As for Amals! No claim to expertise, but have been annoyed by them for years when their simplicity or pot metal bodies cause grief! May I suggest you start a new thread on the 'Techy' forum about your query and we'll see what comes out of the woodwork?

Cheers, Bill
