Engine blasting
« on: February 15, 2008, 11:40:09 PM »
I have an XBR engine thats seen better days. I want to get it blasted, and possibly paint it a sort of alloy wheel silver. I'm reluctant to split the casings or gearbox as I know the engine's running well.
Has anyone else done something like this? I was going to blank off all outlets with alloy sheet while it was blasted. Am I on the right lines??

That will be a lot of work to seal ALL areas but bolting alloy plate on should be ok ,i would put a touch of gasket seal on plates prior to sandwich and leave them on until you are sure no grit is left on and remove after painting.

I had my dommi engine blasted with no problems. I stuffed rag in the ports and then sealed them with silicon. After that i had it primed with self etch and sprayed and coated with lacquer. Looks a treat. You do need a blast compound that  is not too coarse
