XBR 500 Reve Counter - Part 2
« on: January 27, 2008, 05:43:50 PM »
I put a post on a couple of weeks ago as the rev counter on my XBR, which has been in the garage since early December, suddenly started to show double the actual engine revs.. general opinion was that it was knackered and I needed a new one.  I started looking around - one breaker wanted £100 + postage for speed/revcounter  :o

Anyway today, as it was the first weekend since the beginning of the year when it wasn't  **ssing down with rain/ blowing a gale/ or roads looking like the Utah salt flats I went for a quick spin around. This afternoon I was messing around in the garage and decided to try it one last time.  I re connected the wire I'd removed in the back of the rev counter and .......it works perfectly!   :D

I can only think it was either some damp in the electrics or the battery (which I know is getting a bit tired) was playing up the reading to the rev counter.

I've always needed to keep an eye on the battery level as it needs topping up quite often ( do any other XBR owners find this?) (No, it isn't overcharging, I've checked it with a multimeter as all the readings are OK)  so I'm going to see if it can be replaced with one of those gel filled maintenance free jobbies.

Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional!
