XBR CDI unit wiring

Can anyone help.

What is the perpose of the yellow/red wire that connects to the ST terminal on the CDI unit. From the diagram it receives a positive pulse from the starter circuit when same is operated. My only thought is that it may further retard the ignition under start conditions. Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks Pete.

Bit of a guess but on some cars they run a 9v coil and put a resistor in curcuit to make it run with  a 12v system then when you turn the key the volt drop through using the starter brings the system to about 9v and this is then fed direct to the coil and not through the resistor and you still get a full spark.
This is old stuff but it could be built into a solid state sircuit.
