Look at why the cam appears to be noisy on the SRX6(well, Son thinks it is, I'm going to have to have a ride on it myself i think), but....while we had the engine stripped i did notice that the middle journal on the cam had signs of wear or 'pick up' possibly foreign object damage via the oil feed, Son seems to think it's that, i'm not convinced, it's such a beefy camshaft i can't see it whipping in the middle, not to that extent anyway.....but his question is...can the head be line bored and then 'shelled' ... and if it can...is it worth the aggro/expense??
Apart from that #4 looks a treat now, and make my #1 look a bit dowdy

cheers

Agghhh the sound of a newly built engine. Every knock and rattle must be serious and terminal. When someone else builds the engine it never seems 1/2 the problem as when you have built it yourself. Discuss

As long as the oil is getting to the cam it is probably normal. Mine sounds a bit rattily from cold but I now get more laid back about it.

Which reminds me I must check the valve clearences!! Again.

Can it be line bored - dependent of layout - yes.  need it be - what are the clearences? is the soft side scored and the hard side OK? how bad is the scoring and is it just a little - couple of love bites on a smoooooth journal?  What are the tolerences and the actuals

lol rog..... I think you're right there!... in fact the cam center bearing face is unmarked, the alloy seats in the head/rocker cover have light 'love bites' and only the center ones......so i think it's all boiiocks meself, probably needs to set up the tappets correctly, or its a bit of little end play, but as i say, i'll take it out for a run next week and see for myself. Personally I think the problem is that Son wears a pudding basin helmet, so can hear EVERYTHING, me, I wear a full face so my bikes are lovely and quiet

Agree with the helmet comment!,  rode my naked bike, sounded lovely & smooth, fitted a fairing on it, sounded like the proverbial bag of nails!!!!!!!!!!!
