Would I have a problem if i swapped the ignition switch from a 600 on to a 400 and vice versa?

They have a different advance curve. The 400 reaches full advance (35 degrees) at 6000rpm, the 600 (36 degrees) at 4000rpm. The difference in full advance is probably not an issue as it it probably determined by the flywheel rather than the CDI, but the difference in advance curve will make a difference. I have no experience, but I'd guess you might get away with the 600 curve on a 400 at the expense of premium petrol. Vice versa, it'll probably run but might overheat and you will probably lose some midrange performance.

Agreed the ignitions are different, but the question was whether the switch could be swapped over.

I bet you can swap the lock and it's switch from one to the other with no hassle.

A little bit of trivia, MZ's have the same ignition locks and switches as Ducati's. No doubt useful if you attend certain sorts of party (I wish).

Ah now you're showing your age, young Andy...in that distant time before the Wall, when there was balance in the universe, when MAD meant peace not insanity then MZs had different keys, not keys shared with a Ducati but one's shared with Hungarian Tractors and the like.
