GB500 higher handlebars
« on: April 30, 2007, 10:02:46 AM »
I seem to recall that higher clipons from other Honda models will fit the GB500 (35mm forks IIRC). I have "VT250" stuck in my mind - can anyone confirm if this is the case? Alternatively, does anyone know a source of inexpensive risers that clamp on to the fork tops? M&P list a lot of expensiver shiny things. In years past I had such clamps on my GB500, in fact the bike passed to Graham circa 2001 in this form. By the time I bought it back again, the clamps had gone (sold, I think), and we were back to clipons. If anyone has a pair of such things that they want to part with ...

Not proper risers but I think I have a set of buggered CD yokes, these have the handlebar clamps bolted through them (on rubber mounts) If I can find them would they be any good?

If The GB has the same diameter forks as the XBR then CBX550 clipons will fit and they're higher than the XBR clipons. Alternatively, you could go for the risers, I've seen them for about £40 a pair. I can't remember where though. I will find out if I can and post the link. They do appear on ebay occasionally.

It would certainly be easier. Yes, I'm interested if they're going spare. Please let me know what you'd like for them.

I know the GB still had its longer cables on when I got it back from you. Trouble is, when it got dismantled in Tony's shed, the cables got hung up with all his other cables, and I've no idea which cables are on it now. I'll have to measure them ;-) I'll soon see if they reach, anyway. I'm not anticipating that the choke cable will....

As the choke cable is no longer available new, why not just get Venhill to make a slightly longer one? The cost isn't too bad.

I'll dig the bars out tomorow and get back to you.

Venhill, I probably will. It's just galling that I did all that last time ;-) Still, I can't grumble at Tony for mixing up the cables, considering the excellent work he did on that bike for no money

Sorry Richard, been a tad busy. Now that my wife works evenings (and this isn't a cue for smutty jokes) I am pretty much confined to the house with the lads. By the time they get to sleep I have very little time left to do my stuff.

However, she's not working tonight so I may get out to the garage. However child number one, my teenage daughter, is visiting tonight so maybe not :(

I'll sort them out by Monday though
