Just joined and found this thread - another e-mail sent to Motad.  Here's hoping.

Received an email from a very helpful person at Motad today.

They would have to design an exhaust from scratch, as the information from the original system is no longer available to them. So they could potentially make a 2 into 2 system (like the original), or do a 2-1. If there is enough interest, the cost would probably be less than £300 ...but that depends on the design of the system.

If you are seriously interested and would like a copy of the email from Motad, then PM me.

As you've established contact with 'em, perhaps you could mail them back and say I've got a pristine Motad exhaust that they can borrow if they want to copy it.

Cheers

Here is the email that I received from Motad:-

Thanks for your interest Tony

here are the facts- open as ever

We discontinued the XBR500 system about 10 years ago- a combination of low demand as the bike went from "old" to "classic" when demand picks up again- and also because we were not completely happy with the mid range power. The feedback from members suggest we were too "picky".

We moved factory and some of the older jigs/tools were discarded- including the XBR500

At the last Stafford show- the XBR500 was top of questions "do you do an exhaust?"

I asked all interested parties to contact me after the show to get a group together- and I also posted on our website- there were zero contacts and the project was shelved.

Are we interested in a small/medium production run?- yes we are (we recently did our first batch of Hesketh in 30 years)

The key is having a central customer willing to change the undoubted interest into a hard order for an agreed batch .

We would need a bike and an owner willing to loan it for 3-4 weeks.

We would need to discuss style- i would recomend stainless steel as being similar in price to the decent (expensive ) chrome we use
2-1?

We can make a one off- but this would be expensive

Really so we can spread the cost of development, we need a batch of 15-20

I would be happy to make this a specific and unique XBR club system that you could sell- or otherwise perhaps spread the cost a little if I could publicise your batch, and then make some for others at the same time.

Throw me your thoughts!!!

*************************************************************************

I can email my contact to say that you are willing to loan them your exhuast ...if that helps. Meanwhile, it has been a while since we started this thread off, so maybe those (still) interested could reply again to this thread - or email sales@motad.co.uk  ... unless someone has a better idea?

.....

Ah buggrit, just 2 days after I ordered a Predator system!  Mined ewe, by the time they get jigs together and sort any prototype tuning bugs out I would likely have given up anyway, but still .....

I've spent some time measuring up what I've got. The stock downpipes have an ID of 29mm, the Motad according to the info previously posted is the same. The Micron 2:1 that I have run (and dyno'd) on my race engine has 25mm ID downpipes. Its interesting the Motad weren't happy with the mid-range, the Micron seems to work very well there - maybe because of the smaller downpipes. The HRC 2:1 has an ID of approx 32mm, the same as the OS 2:2 stainless pipes. I've had 5 different exhaust setups (all dyno'd) and I think that the 32mm (35 OD) pipes will work very well with some freer flowing silencers. Its going to be a while before my bike is up and running but I will do another dyno test stock downpipes v OS downpipes.

If they need one for 3 -4 weeks they can borrow mine - if my hunt for stock downipes proves fruitless i'll need a Motad anyway.
