So who is your monkey, does he or she have aspirations to Planet of the Apes?
-
I had to chuckle at this thread, every year for the last ten years or so 002 has been saying that he may not go to the next Dragon Rally... and then he does ;)
I intend going to the Bruce Pollard rally on the friday... I must get my money off for that.
In the unlikely event that anyone was wondering what happened to my Dragon Rally website, the fees came due and I got fed up of paying for it all and the time it was taking to do it. Ordinarily I would have probably grumbled a bit, paid the hosting and domain name fees and carried on, but it came at the time when I was at my most disillusioned about my internet use and I let it go.
One thing that did my head in was the fact that the site did carry a Paypal button and a bit of text saying "even a 50p donation will help with website costs". Despite the fact that every Dragoneer who met me, who knew I ran the site, told me how great it was (sometimes at great length), nobody ever clicked that Paypal button.
Which leads me on to the subject of Steve Hayward. He's a bloody hero for the work he does with this site and we should tell him every time we think of it.

Hi guys,
Happy New Year.
Dragon just about a month away.
My mate John has decided not to go as he is going to have to work.
Therefore one ticket available, price as paid to Conwy mcc £20.
If anyone fancies it best text me on 07538 720770 as I tend not to be on the forum as often due to work.
Look forward to seeing you all in Feb.

Probably the postmen cannot read the Welsh adresses, Mark. The French and the Germans got it too. :P Not only the Dutch.

aint had mine either :(
-
I'll take a more optimistic line and say that's something to look forward to...
My brother is loaning me his outfit for the Dragon and he intends taking his pristine CB250RS. I have to say I'm not very excited about it this year, but that's probably because I haven't been riding much. I know I will have a blast and love every minute.

I find myself in the slightly embarrassing situation of having a spare ticket due to slightly modified plans (er - I haven't finished rebuilding my partner's 650 Savage and she refuses to travel in my sidecar if she can't ride her own bike there).
Hence it's up for grabs at face value, otherwise it goes on ebay (which I'd rather not...)
Contact me via email if interested. first come, first served. Please form an orderly queue...
-
Leaving within an hour.
Are we packed or overloaded. :o

Richard and Friday arrived with me yesterday after a stopover with Simon.
Will take them for a spin along the south west coast to Tenby today via Laugharne, Pendine and Saundersfoot.
Friday is looking cold. ;D

Now Stop It !

The outfit is nearly prepped, a 'slowy' in the sidecar tyre has been fixed (I hope) and the front wheel is off for new bearings and a tyre. I've tweaked the awning system that Gareth built for it and, possibly for the first time ever, I've got all my camping kit out and sorted with days to spare.
I also fitted a 16 tooth gearbox sprocket in place of the 17 tooth standard one. The bike pulls the sidecar weight ok, but the gear range is a bit off, either chugging at the speed limit or revving in a lower gear. I'm hoping the one tooth difference (being the easiest way to adjust things) will make it easier to ride. I'll find out later today, with luck.
Tonight's task is to fit handlebar muffs. One other task may be to buy a light waterproof jacket to fit over my flying jacket, the one I've got is a bit old and tired (like its owner).
I'm staying at the Giler Arms on Friday at the rally named after our esteemed (and much missed) club member Bruce Pollard. I'll probably bivi on that night rather than have all the pallaver of packing up a tent on Saturday morning. I'm hoping to meet the Llanberis lads at the checkpoint on Saturday. Anyone else doing the Bruce rally or am I Billy-no-mates? ;)

You really oughtn't stick you chin out like that GC, figuratively speaking.
Keith and I are checking out a place below the Blaenau turn, looks OK too.
I await a set of handlebars, bike in bits and haven't even started to think about gear.
Suppose I could use the 150??
Then I would be Billy no brakes
Steff

Which makes me Billy No Bikes.

Unfortunately this was organised after I had booked a converted barn and am responsible( :o) for my party of 20, otherwise I would be there in support.

I am not attending but will be passing sometime Friday afternoon. We could be forced to stop for a quick look.
-
I've got no idea what to expect of the event, but the Jack Frost rally was held there a few years ago and it was fun. I'm looking forward to it.
Richard, I'd be Billy-no-Bike too if it hadn't been for the generosity of my brother, he's been a star.
I rode the ER5 outfit tonight with its smaller gearbox sprocket fitted and it goes well. It still doesn't have the poke of Simon's new CB500 outfit, which shows how good a choice he made. With no gearing mods he can pull away easily, cruise at 70 and still return mpg in the low to mid 50s.

Is that your MT lot? Should be a good evening

I too shall be pausing at Y Giler Arms to poke my nose in en route.
May the farce be with you.

Anyone know what time control is manned to on the Saturday afternoon? Have got to work Saturday morning and wont get to control area till after 4pm. Is it worth turning up?
Crusty
-
Crusty, just pm'd yer.
-
That was close. Fortunately I've managed to borrow a GS500 from Roy.
Thanks Roy, this deserves a few beers.
I am also amazed by how low the seat height is, as a shortarse I can get BOTH feet flat on the floor.
Now wondering if one could caff one up.
-
There was always a bike here if you'd wanted one :-\

I have had recent email conversation with Graham Bradshaw of the Conwy Club, in which he has told me that the control caravan will be there from about 8am to 6pm, failing which I shall pm you my mobile phone number so that you can ring me and get final directions :)
