I am collecting the bike saturday lunchtime, i have decided to leave standard silencer on until it has its first service, i may just go for the hitchpeoples offering. Have you disconnected the wiring to stop headlight coming on when electric start is used ?  and the side stand cut out, that sounds like a nuisance

I never use the electric start because it's such a good starter on the lever. No real effort required. Headlight and side stand switch left alone. In years to come I dare say the wiring on Norman will be rationalized. The electric starter motor is being removed this winter.

well I had a really nice ride home, 130 miles and the bike is smashing ! everything I hoped for apart from an oil leak !  The rubber grommet beside the filler cap started weeping, haven`t had time to investigate as when I got home there was a chap interested in the savage , he bought it but it was getting dark so couldn`t look at it properly. I think it might be the pressure switch ?

Nice one Rufus. Yeah I saw you pop up on the RE Facebook group.

Rubber grommet? Next to the petrol filler? I ain't got a rubber grommet so I'm not sure what you mean. There's a small drain hole next to the filler cap. Is yours the screw off type cap?

Right next to the oil filler cap is what I take to be the main alternator output wires. Oil should definitely not be coming out. I'd check your oil level first job mate. More likely is that they got a lot spilled onto the top of the cases when filling? But I'd take nothing for granted!

Thanks, I have sent a video to dealer , see what he says, is the grommet a tight fit  on yours ?

Yes and perfectly oil tight. It is positioned too close to the filler cap. Possibly early incarnations had a shorter starter motor allowing the harness to run a different route. Hamfisted use of the filler cap could dislodge it. But first I'd check the oil level and satisfy yourself that it's not just residue on the top.

Book says 300 but dealers suggest around 500 miles. I went to 500 miles. It's an oil and filter change and a supposed general check. Tappets hydraulic and maintenance free.

Sounds like a great day - old bike sold, new bike collected. I'm sure the oil leak will only be something silly. Let's hope the Indian summer continues so you can get some miles in.  :)

Yes it does sound like a top day spooky... good man👍. I was that excited following yours posts over the last few weeks, then reading yesterday's posts it's made me want to go get one. Only thing that's stopping me is I'd probably have to call it NORA.🤣🤣 Unfortunately the weather for today (Sunday) looks dreadful. Shame for you.
Cheers, Michael
