This spring is no longer listed by Yamaha and is likely not in production as of 2019. So, what might be a substitute?

Went to measure up rear brake return spring for your #8 SRX twin shock and then remembered that Sally twin shock doesn't have one fitted as she has a set of McCrane rear sets fitted. The one fitted to Gert the Mono has a different part number, and I have no idea what the difference in dimensions might be.

However, do not despair. Put the Yamaha Part Number:90506-20223 into eBay and all that are available are in the USA. The same spring is also fitted to 2004-2009 FZ6, 1979-1982 YZ250 and 1980-1981 YZ465 as the rear brake pedal return spring. Hey presto! Yambits in the UK have the rear brake spring for the 1980-1981 YZ465 for the princely sum of £3-50 + P&P.

Hi Bill, yes, that looks like the jobbie alright ....
just been out and measure up #8, looks to be 65mm long (2.5"), i found a spring on fleabay, which 'might' fit the bill, but your option is a better bet, i shall get off and order it now, and keep you posted.
as car was in for mot, i had a nice (if a bit cold) round trip of 80 miles to work on #6... joy

Hey Bill, springs arrived today, the ones you found are ok, fractionally too long, but a bit of persuasion with pliers make it an excellent return spring.
the springs i found on ebay, although supposedly the correct length (65mm) , were way too long ... must be a problem in translation from mandarin ..
so #8 is nearing completion. awaiting correct fuel tap service kit from M&P... who have sent 2 incorrect kits so far ... finally spoke to a human, and problem is now resolved (well, not got me money back yet.... but i live in hope)
