Can’t figure out what bike my forks are off.

(Picture included)
Hi Folks

I have recently aquired a bike project but it’s a Frankenstein’s Monster. I have deciphered that the engine is a 1986 Yamaha srx 600, frame is a 1977 Honda CB550, tank off a BSA and front callipers off Honda nighthawk. My frustration level in trying to deduce what model my forks is through the roof. I really hope that you guys can help me in my quest. The only clue I have is that the bloke told me he was told they may be off a Suzuki gt maybe. I found a sticker on them stating SHOWA 460-841.
Cheers Stan

Aye Stan,

:-[  I posted a less than complimentary post on this forum, when I spied your new acquisition for sale on eBay and some of the subsequent banter was in a similar vein. So, you are the "lucky one!"   :-\

Welcome to the TC forum. I hope that you enoy the craic.

As for the front forks fitted to "The Collection" or "Frankenstein's Monster"; I had a quick browse through part numbers and Showa 460--841 appear to refer to Honda CB650 SC Nighthawk suspension. However, when looking at the front forks from a CB650 SC Nighthawk the tops of the slider casting incorporates the mounts for the mudgaurd and your forks do not have this feature. The distinctive machined rings around the top of the sliders and what appear to be Schrader type air valves for pressuring the forks might be clues as to their origin. Although Yamaha used air valves on the SRX front forks, I am not sure if they are the same as yours.

All the best, with your acquisition, we might be able to offer some guidance about the engine and you can have a 'Search' through the various boards.

If you wish to find pictures, the Fleabay images can still be viewed (2019-02-08) at this link: "The_Collection"_"Frankenstein's_Monster"_images

My regards, Bill

Evening gents and welcome to the Thumper club Stan. Bill it looks like you are correct, Honda cb650 nighthawk forks. Just google imaged them and they look identical to the Frankenstein monster forks. Leading axle, caliper mounts spacing appears to look the same and the three little rings around the top. .... best o luck Stan with the project and please figure out how to post photos up as it's certainly going to be an interesting one to follow 👍... cheers, Michael

Yes I seem to have an interesting monster on my hands I agree it’s a complete pile of horseshit thrown together, a lot will be thrown or sold.  I will figure out how to reduce the kB size of my jpeg pics so I can upload my progression with what I decide to do with it chaps. Thanks for your help regarding the forks I think you are right with nighthawk reference. Frankenstein is definitely her name now though.

Many thanks guys
Regards Stan

Hi Stan. If you mean via a tablet then I had same problem. Iansoady kindly recommended I download the Photo Editor app, which I did. This allows you to resize file accordingly. Good luck with the resto.

If my little project goes all frankiestein, I'll just say that Michael offered to fix it and turned up in the van with no tools, just a giant tin of glue   :o

Oh yes we (professional plumbers that is😉😉) have a lovely tub of solvent weld glue in our tool boxes... no wonder my days seem to just fly by, sniffing on that stuff all day. 🤘🤘
