XBR 500 top yolk

Not sure whether i have asked this question previously, but would anyone know if there is a top yolk out there with handlebar mount that would fit an XBR500?

Good evening Gareth, I don't off hand know of a particular yoke, but I do know that Mthee has some form of risers bolted to his original XBR top yoke using a renthal style handlebar. I shud "hopefully" av a spare top yoke in the not to distant future once my fancy smancy CNC jobbies are done. So if you shud need one just let me know... cheers, Michael

Depending on what you are planning, CBX550 bars go straight  on to the XBR in place of the clip ons to give a raised bar. I've seen some riser kits at stupid prices!!

I have CBX550 bars on my XBR. At first glance the difference does not seem that big,but I actually find them very comfortable.

Gareth... just depending on what you want to spend, I could most likely have a fancy smancy top yoke CNC'd up for you by my mate, I can use my original as the spec to get the dimensions correct. However I think Stevec#222 has beaten me to a cheaper albeit not as fancy smancy alternative 😁😁🤘... let me know if you're interested and I'll get a bit of a costing from him to CNC one up 💷💷💷💷💷💷

Mine was done by a previous owner who has simply drilled through the yolk to bolt in the risers. This would be be your cheapest solution if you're ok with a handlebar as opposed to clip ons,  but maybe not as pretty as Steve or Michael's suggestions.
Other pic is the CBX clip ons for comparison - is this your XBR, blew? I saved it a while back when I was trying out different bars.

Thanks guys, plenty to think about , i do want to go down the conventional handlebar route opposed to clipons so i'll look at risers clamps fitted to yolks.

I like the thought of CNC machined yolk, but not sure on cost!!!! Im not looking to chuck megga bucks at at this project, i  just want something a little different.

Hi Gareth. 

Been looking at the xbr setup with Mick this morning. To see what options we can see. A replacement top yoke would be a great deal simpler without the bosses underneath that hold the fuse block and ignition barrel. How much of a custom job are you looking at?

The idea of using two adaptors which attach to each stanchion protrusion seems to have already been thought of. Another possibility is using a second yoke sat above the first one, but not attached to the stem. The bar riser clamps could then be fitted to this.

If we can get a feel for which direction you'd like to go I could produce a drawing and Mick can have it costed out for us.

Evening Gareth, yes the type of thing big bro is thinking of is very similar to the ABM yokes. If you go on google n type in "ABM Kawasaki gpz1100r unitrak yoke conversion" you should hopefully be presented with a picture of the kind of thing we're talking about....

I'm pretty confident that we'd be able to get something similar to the ABM yoke done for a reasonable cost... let me know if you want me to pursue it for you... cheers, Michael

I think im going to go down the bolt on riser option, i fitted them to Liz's XBR a number of years ago as she needed a more upright riding position and it was a fairly simple mod, shame we sold her bike!!. Im just looking to change the tank, saddle and tail unit and fancy an upright riding style, all of which will be done on a very tight budget!! i only thought there may have been a yoke that i could have just done a straight swap.

Mick and myself offered up a handlebar and clamps as an assembly onto the top yoke. It looks as if the stanchion needs moving down approximately 20mm? This will increase the rake. Obviously we can see that mthee has a bike with bars on and it obviously works, but can he confirm the stanchion adjustment and if so, an appraisal of the steering?
