Using My XBR...

Over the last 6 weeks since we moved into our rental property without garaging ,i've been using my XBR and RS like proper bikes back in the day.Instead of being cosetted in a workshop and cleaned and  polished ,i've used them most days in all weather (mainly the XBR) ,they are kept outside while my other bikes and sports car are in storage in the country. What's impressed me is for 30 year old bikes with 40 or 50K on the clock they have proved to be very dependable. I know in saying this i'll be tempting fate (particularly today) but hats off to Mr Honda....

Good man Martin, I'd use mine everyday but think I'd struggle to get a full bathroom suite strapped on there along with myself n my tools😁😁
Although years back when I'd not been working long (about 1981/82) I used to see a plumber down the local merchants and he used to ride a 400 wet dream with a wooden coffin shaped box as a sidecar, used to strap quite a lot to that. Top man.👍👍

Isn't it great to get back to the old ways. I'm not a lover of the modern bike strictly as a toy mentality. A motorbike is primarily a means of transport, the fact that they can stir your soul is a lucky side benefit. Keep it up man, one more of us and one less of them.

I do try to use my bikes on a daily basis as much as i can-i go to work most days March to October- but as i've got older i have tended to be more of a fair weather rider-mainly because i don't like riding in the rush hour with morons in cars cutting me up when there's no where to go on greasy conurbation roads.

I used to commute all year round, mainly on my trusty GT550, but haven't done so since I moved to a higher elevation out into the sticks, apart from one year a while back, when I used the Dommie. I had to pack it in due to too mainy dodgy ice encounters. Also wear and tear on a bike in this climate isn't good, and the Dommie needed a complete strip down in the spring. If i lived in a large street lit conurbation, then I would definitely do it again. I have to applaud Guzzi Steve, who lives even further out than me, and still commutes all year round on his big Pan

Aye Sally was a 5,000 - 6,000 miles a year machine for shopping, gadding about and touring. Whilst the BROS, was no far behind on similar duties.

Xbally's comments are particularly pertinent.

At present there is a leaning toward one of the Piaggio MP3 500ie type of machines. I have an 85 year young friend who rides regularly for pleasure on one and loose gravel or ice, hold no fears for him. Corner speed is also "quick"! 😆 But, I have that horses buttock syndrome around corners! 😨

Just keep doing it, if it keeps you fit, alert and with a smile for other folk.
