Thumpers on Real Classic website
« on: November 26, 2016, 11:32:21 AM »
Hi All

There's a bit of a write up on the Real Classic website by Martin Gelder on new thumpers he saw at Motorcycle Live. He gives brief details of five bikes {MASH, Enfield, SWM, Herald and Holiss}. It's great to see so many manufacturers re-discovering the merits of simple, air-cooled singles. Let's hope enough buyers go for them to make it worth continuing the trend.

If I had money to spend on a new bike the SWM would be my choice. Somehow it just has a little more style than the others in my eyes, though at a grand more than a MASH Dirtstar maybe I would change my mind. Just as well I haven't got the funds and will be keeping my F650 for a good while longer!

Thanks for posting Ian. OK, the Hollis is definitely different, but I would buy any of the other four listed in a heartbeat, IF, I was in the market for a new bike. The RE Himalaya is £1750 new, in India, but obviously it will be a lot dearer if it reaches Europe. My understanding is that it is still carbed, so won't meet euro emissions, and will probably have to be fuel injected. I've seen Mashes and SWMs in the flesh, and they are definitely great looking bikes. XT Will of Celtic Motorcycles in Haverford West is an agent for both, as well as RE  :)

Have you seen the latest Mash offering?  Look vaugely familiar?....sort of GBish? Not quite there but not bad!........I wonder if that fairing would fit an XBR......
