Of interest at Stafford ... Auction ...??

Just a quick "heads-up" to anybody going to Stafford ... Bonhams have listed at lot No. 236 , a black 1987 XBR, looking very clean and very "straight" ... It's from Holland, and NOT UK registered ... 39,000 km's ( just over 24,000 miles ) ... their guide is £2,000 to £2,500 .... but remember ...... "Auction fever" , usually causes you to forget about "Buyers Premium" ...!!! The last time I looked at that , it was about 12.5 % .... plus VAT .... Regards, Tony

It went for £1840 so a little below estimate. I wonder if the fact that it wasn't UK registered had any effect? looked like a clean bike.

It certainly was a very clean bike Steve ... It may have attained a "hammer-price" of £1840 ... but a 15% buyers premium, which is also subject to VAT, ...... and not forgetting the £25 entrance fee at the auction door, ( registration fee, giving you a numbered paddle ) , .... takes the successful bidder's bill to ..... £2,196-20 .... Then you have to factor in the cost of hiring a van to get it home ... Even with these costs, I think it would have made a good buy ... Regards, Tony

£16,000 for a 1936 Inter Norton rebuilt by George Cohen and Sammy Miller looks, if not cheap, good value for those who could afford it. Pension fund perhaps?

Not a bad idea! Big Bro was looking into one of these pre paid funeral plans - apparently you pay in around  £5k over a few years which then just sits there not accuring any sort of interest until you pop your clogs - he worked out that for the same money he could buy himself a nice Triumph 3TA ( which he always wanted) that he could have the pleasure of riding and polishing and that when the time came would cover the funeral costs.

All you need is the disipline to do it. I have the same with pet insurance. Pay your ten quid a month and when Fido needs his ingrowing toe nail sorting the barstewards quibble. Put it into a savings account and if the dog has a heart attack 18 years later you get a holiday in his memory.

With a bike you'd need to know how to keep it alive that's all.

You are correct Ian ... I had failed to see that the XBR price did include the buyers premium ... It must have only realised a hammer price of £1560 .... A canny buy I reckon ...

Sounds a reasonable deal. There was a tidy XBR for sale in the main hall on Friday night, asking £1400, but it was gone on Saturday morning 
On the other extreme, there was a roughish GB400 on sale outside for £4995 
Bargain of the weekend though, was, Marks SRX600, which he sold from our camping spot

No Tim I'd av to say the bargain of the weekend would AV been my ikuzawa. Luckily for me I decided NOT to sell it in the end......it was a close one tho as I had two blokes after it by the time I'd got home on Sunday night.

Excellent decision mate. Following a conversation with an interested purchaser yesterday, I too have decided not to sell the Guzzi. Said interested part, reckoned, that the bike was worth more, and that I should hold on to it. And of course, its now off the road till I fix the rear hub

Get it on the road Michael, or better still as a trackday 'tool' for yoursel'!    At least you'd use the wee beastie rather than it gathering dust and corroding internally in an "investment collection"!    Especially after the work you've put in to get it this far. Just think of coming up the Devil's Beeftub and through to Broughton or Lockerbie to Innerleithen via Ettrick and the Gordon Arms!

Bill, I'll have you know I spent five whole minutes prepping the bike for sale, two black insulation tape(matt) racing stripes applied on top of the rollered on army green paint, it was beautiful.

Morning Bill, yes mate I'm defo going to keep it and "convert" it to a lovely little road bike, all be it with flat bars and not the clip on's. It's far to extreme for my arm as it is now. I didn't really ever want to sell it but thought I was being "sensible" but hey why change the habit of a lifetime eh . Down at Stafford we were sited right next to the Harris magnum owners stand which had a couple of cracking bikes on there. Gave me some good inspiration. I'm going to crack on and get the tracker down first then turn my attention to the iki again. Fear not tho it defo won't ever end up as some "investment " piece, bikes are built to be ridden, hopefully with some passion
