Chinese pattern parts

Back in February of this year, I was in need of a front brake switch for the little CL400 ... So I took a ride to a local .. ish Honda dealer about 20 miles from me ... Not a super scarce, or rare item you'd think ... The guy serving was someone I had dealt with many times before... "That will have to come from Japan I'm afraid ... could quite easily take a month, or maybe more ... I've got some Chinese ones, they are universal ... even got them in stock." .... "Well, in that case, I'll take one then .... only a tenner..? That'll do then."  Yes, I can hear you laughing already..!!! .... It has only lasted six months ... So, mindful of my hard earned being frittered away on something that isn't going to last, I thought that this time I would get the genuine article ... and not wanting to wait a month, I called David Silver Spares ... "No problem, we can get one for you, about a week, £26-50 please." As promised, in less than said week, a tiny little switch arrived ... all wrapped nicely in a genuine Honda wrapper .... Guess where it was made .......... Yep, you guessed right ...!!!!  AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH....!!!!!!

Almost every small electrical item is now made in China. But quality does vary wildly. I had 2 dip switch / horn pushes for my Sunbeam from different suppliers. One was unusable and very poorly made; the other (which cost about £1 more) was far better. But you never know till you actually see the thing in the flesh.

Where doesn't matter, its who manages the factory. British Leyland vs Nissan Sunderland. Honda in 1944 (banned by the Jaoanese Military for making ****) vs Honda in 1980 etc.

I had a duff MZ carburettor off ebay a while back.  Wrong in various ways, but I damaged it trying so new I couldn;t have a refund.  Put on bad feedback to warn others and got it cancelled by ebay.  What little trust I had in ebay has now gone - how do we know what is crap and what isn't.

Back to original suppliers, lesson learnt, again.
