Ever wished you hadn't offered?
« on: April 17, 2016, 05:24:58 PM »
I recently sold my SLR650 to a mate (on the understanding that he will sell it back to me when my finances improve) and offered to sort the rear suspension linkage for him as I knew it was mostly seized. Well, I wish I had kept quiet. The bolt nearest the rear wheel was a pig to get out but nothing compared to the one at the front. The bolt had totally welded itself to the sleeve which passes through the bearings. Much work with a grinder, heat and 2lb hammer and the shackle is out of the frame. However what remains of the bolt is still stuck in the sleeve!

Next time he's on his own!

They should be! Manuals would be more accurate if they said "disassemble the b##**%d monoshock *******ing linkage with a great big hammer, loads of swearing and a feeling of utter *******ing failure several times before the boundless joy of that first millimetre of movement"

Well spotted, Ron! As one of the less technically-minded, how am I supposed to learn, if relevant 😀 terms are ommitted?!

yes, I remember struggling with the one on my Dominator 15 years or so ago.

Oddly enough, the linkage on my current SLR came apart very easily when I fitted a new yoke to the suspension unit to lower it a bit.

You win one, you lose one. Skinned knuckles and the chance to shout out " Oh Dear".
