WARNING for MZ owners!!
« on: March 15, 2016, 09:37:29 PM »
Hi fella`s. As most of you will know, I`m on the market for a nice usable thumper and doing lots of looking around. There are many bikes out there I like, which include the MZ...so I joined the forum to see what I could learn. I know there are MZ owners on here and you are also probably part of the MZ forum, but just in case you`re not please read the link I`ve attached regarding ignition switches, it will probably take you 5 mins. Anyone, like me, who is thinking of buying a bike with the same ignition switch set up, it`s a must read!! You may all be aware of this issue, I don`t know, I wasn`t, but just in case please please read. Cheers, Steve  ;)

Gracia Steve,

Posted link onto the owner of my old Skorpion. Never had a problem myself, BUT! Better safe than sorry.  ;)

My regards, Bill

I remember reading of a similar problem with V-Stroms (650 ones at least).

I loathe those "security" bolts wherever fitted. Steering locks do nothing to stop a bike being stolen as a sharp pull on the bars is usually enough to break them. I nearly dropped my Dominator after somebody tried to steal it (without noticing it was chained to a ground anchor). They'd broken the steering lock but a bit was left protruding. As soon as I tried to turn left the steering just locked up - fortunately at walking speed.

I had a KMX years ago, parked up outside my house between two cars with the steering lock on. Went to go out on it the next day, forgot about it, tried to ride off and ended up in a heap it the middle of the road  :o  ;D

I recently had a similar issue with my Guzzi.I'd taken off the front right indicator as it looked bent and when i popped it back on,i dropped the small nut which secres it.Although i looked around the workshop and bike i couldn't find it so i used another nut. About 4 weeks later i was out for a ride when suddenly i had very little steering lock on one side. After careful inspection i noted the missing nut had rolled itself into the one of the lock stop gaps.Obviously it was my own stupid fault but it was quite unnerving having very little steering lock.Reminded me of the 2 occasions i have ridden off with a disc lock still on which resulted in a very embarrassing low speed get off without injury to me or my bikes.

Thanks for this, I've checked the one I've ridden to work today, and will check the SilverStar when I get home!
