It's a youtube video - those of you wedded to apple's closed world probably can't see it.

Why not tell us a bit about her, how long you've owned it, any history, etc etc.

What year is it... looks in lovely condition.... does it have the hand operated gear on left of tank?... does it have the obligatory Sunbeam 'oil bath chaincase' ? I'm assuming it's the 500 lion?

sorry, brings back great childhood memories, my Father had 4, 2 350 side valves, and 2 500 ohv's... all 1936 to 38
used to pull a child/adult chair ... toured all over the British isles
I could tell you about the time the clutch burned out in the lake district... 8 hours on the side of the road, boiling corks on the primus stove, (corks obtained by a very helpful AA man who raided the local chemists in Coniston.... fitting corks , rubbing down and refitting everything... of course, the chair had to come off to access the clutch... can't imagine how , at the age of 12 I managed to help the old man get it off and back on again...
anyway... long story... best told over a pint one day
good luck with the old Beamer...  lovely to see

Hi Steve.

It's a Model 10 350cc OHV. It was brought out as a "cheap" bike by Sunbeam in the Depression era as Sunbeams were always seen as (and were) generally expensive although of high quality. The gentleman's motorcycle was how they were advertised.....

It is indeed hand change (3-speed, lever on the RHS of the tank) and has the oil bath chaincase although I'm afraid more of an oil leak chaincase. There is little commercial sense behind it as almost all parts including engine, gearbox, frame and wheels are unique to the model so design, tooling and production costs must have been very high. And it was only catalogued for 2 years so wasn't popular even at £65....

Your memories chime with mine although my Dad was always a Norton owner. We used to go from County Durham to Bolton every Christmas when I was but a toddler and I can remember one story of sliding down the grass verge in atrocious conditions near Blubberhouses as the road was a sheet of black ice. People were tough in those days.

Me on one of Dad's Model 19s:
