should pick up a nice one owner 13000 mile xbr 500 this week, wire wheels and rear seat cowl in the burgundy colour, one policeman owner and serviced every year, bit of patina but all there and original, ive been after this bike for around ten years now and finally he decided to let it go, under the circumstances that i do not sell it in his lifetime, this will be one for my son to sell then cant wait wayne from norfolk.

Welcome. I had one exactly the same with slightly higher mileage but sold it. Regretted ever since. It is certainly a keeper....enjoy

Can't go far wrong with an XBR - Honda go it pretty much right from the start - and it sounds like you've got good'un.

Keep an eye on the oil level - it can be a bit of a bugger to get an accurate level - and change the oil every 1000-1500 miles - ignore the 5000 mile changes that the manual tells you, oil is cheap ! fit a new filter every other oil change, get proper honda filters from David Silver they are less than a fiver. Keep an eye on the brake caliper, they tend to get mucky and the pistons don't pull off properly - easy to fix - you can get stainless brake pistons that stop a lot of the problem. Finally fit an chain oiler if it doesn't have one, nothing fancy needed, I have a loobman on mine (£20) and it works fine.

Congratulations, and welcome. My mate Tony, who lurks on this site, did exactly the same thing as your good self. He stalked a low mileage wire wheel silver one for at least ten years. And got it in the end 
There is only one way to check the oil accurately in these bike, and that is take it for a short run, say 2 miles, then let it tick over for three minutes, switch off. Check oil. Yes, it sounds a bit of a palaver, but its the only accurate way that works for me.
