Looks strange!
With three extra chains, wouldn't a piston hydraulic setup be virtually as efficient? Perhaps heavier tho?

Hub motors are the way to go, assuming of course there is an actual need for this. Run the engine at optimum speed for the power required and distribute to the wheels according to what they can use. DC motors of course have masses of torque.
