Did anyone see BBC4's documentary on Folk singer Nic Jones return to the stage 30 years after an horrific car crash that broke nearly every bone in his body just as he was coming to the height of his career? Amazing singer and terrific guitarist, it's well worth watching.  Don't be put off by the 'Folk' label, if you haven't heard his album 'Penguin eggs' you've missed a real treat.

Yeah, saw it brilliant, never heard of him before, but well worth listening to. His son is a brilliant guitarist as well, they compliment each other extremely well on stage.

          Thanks for the welcome! Since you asked, all the weather girls are useless and never get anything right, landrovers should be limited to cities only. I have gas cooking stoves though I prefer a good open fire and my religion precludes me from eating anything Kosher. Has anybody else got a Suzuki freewind?

Hello Max,

The fact you have an opinion will make you fit right in.

Many members here are unable to truly understand what the weather presenters are saying although most do have certificates to show they at least have a hope of a normal life so long as they stop drinking and sniffing petrol. The meteorological presentation is viewed rather at a aesthetic level based on vague memories of the backs of bike sheds before the war (that's the Crimean one).

Modern Landrovers are of course limited to the city by the need to stay close to the dealers. Our little band of landroverists however treat theirs more like vintage mechano (or many XBR's welded together which in at least one case it may be) .

Rules on what not to eat will indeed save you from serious discomfort the day after any get together. I would extend your rules to cover anything than cannot be left near a naked flame and anything pickled or dried. As in any emergency tinned food is probably best at a TC rally IMHO.

A desire for a good open fire can be easily achieved using some of the petrol stoves carried by members.

I think you may be our only Freewind owner (?) although I can think of a few  here who would fit the description.

A series Landy, Jethro? Which series? the spartan "1" the in betweener "2" or god forbid the axle snapping "3"?
I think the series relate to the level of Meccano you are capable of. However, at least on a serious series you could remove the gearbox and transfer case a and carry the components to the workbench unlike the Rangie. Now the Rangie is a serious Meccano set requiring multi skill levels to be proficient to work on. Crane driver/tow truck driver, Auto electrician, DIY electrician and of course, Lucas trained??? electrician. Nuts and bolts expert, and also with serious training in electromagnetic manipulation to pick up all the bits and pieces as they dropped of while on a journey. The earlier versions could at least have basic maintenance performed with a hammer, shifter and screwdriver/chisel.

OH so you have a Series 3 then Jethro?

Mine was a'77, 88, 2.4 4cyl petrol
3x left axles. 1 exhaust manifold , a set of 2nd gear synchro rings, 1 clutch plate and usual wear items.
Not bad for 6 or 7 years of ownership I suppose.
Unlike most 4x4's of the today mine (early 80's) actually got muddy in the Great Divide. This was followed by a '86 Subaru Brumby which I had for 23 years, '76 Range Rover 2 door money pit, and now a '97 Delica also a money pit.
